With the second week of preseason games on the horizon, the Kansas City Chiefs have been busy making additions to their 90-man roster.

Over the last couple of days, the Chiefs have signed running back Michael Wiley and local star defensive end Nate Matlack to see if either guy can push for a roster spot. But anytime you add a player or two to the roster, it means you have to cast other guys aside.

The Chiefs didn’t have to cut anyone, but did have to put veterans Deon Bush and Janarius Robinson on injured reserve.

Speaking of cuts, an ex-Kansas City running back was unfortunately kicked to the curb by his new team after just signing with them two days ago.

Former Chiefs RB Deneric Prince Gets Quickly Waived by New England Patriots

On Tuesday, Mike Kadlick of Patriots on CLNS reported that the New England Patriots have parted ways with running back Deneric Prince.

It was a short stint for the ex-Chiefs running back, who was just signed on Sunday. Before he got a chance in New England, the 25-year-old Prince played in the UFL a few months ago with the Memphis Showboats.

The former Chiefs running back was one of the best offensive players on the Showboats, as he racked up 380 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 107 carries. Prince also got some work as a pass catcher out of the backfield with 18 receptions for 110 yards and showcased his skills as a kick returner.

The 6-foot, 216-pound running back didn’t have a huge role with the Chiefs, who signed him as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL Draft.

Prince competed for a roster spot in training camp during the 2023 preseason, but came up short in his pursuit. However, the Chiefs kept the undrafted free agent around, immediately signing Prince to a futures deal.

Prince appeared in two games during the 2023 season, playing 15 special teams. The Chiefs re-signed him to a futures deal at the end of the season, which gave him another shot to get a job on the 53-man roster.

But the Chiefs parted ways with Prince last summer at the end of preseason, and this time, he was signed to the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad. Since he was cut fairly quickly, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Prince got signed by another team, as he has 10 games' worth of film from spring ball to lean on.
