While the Kansas City Chiefs are busy preparing for a Super Bowl rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles, other teams are conducting coaching searches and have already begun the offseason.

Several big names have already found jobs and are filling out the rest of their coaching staffs. One such person is Mike Vrabel, who will be the New England Patriots' head coach after winning three Super Bowls there as a player.

He hired Josh McDaniels to be his offensive coordinator but according to Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports, former Chiefs coach Eric Bieniemy was under strong consideration. He's still in discussions with other teams, so it sounds like the controversial assistant could soon have another job in the NFL.

Former Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy Getting Closer to NFL Comeback

Schultz stopped short of saying that Bieniemy has actually interviewed with teams aside from New England but did note that he's still in discussions with other organizations

"The belief was that Bieniemy was a top candidate for the New England job, had McDaniels not been the obvious choice," Schultz wrote on X. "Talks with other teams are ongoing."

Bieniemy was in Kansas City from 2013-2022, beginning as the running backs coach before being promoted to offensive coordinator. He was one of the architects behind Patrick Mahomes' sublime start to his career, scoring the third-most points in NFL history (565) during Mahomes' first year as a starter.

After failing to get much recognition and head coaching opportunities, Bieniemy left after the 2022 season and Super Bowl win over the Eagles. He was then a coordinator for the Washington Commanders prior to spending a year at UCLA.

Now, Bieniemy has his eyes on a play-calling gig. He's long dreamed of running the show himself, though landing another offensive coordinator job would go a long way in helping prove he deserves the chance to be a head coach.

With the way the Chiefs' offense has struggled since Bieniemy's departure, some fans have asked for his return. That's unlikely to happen, even if Matt Nagy earns a job elsewhere. Regardless, here's hoping Bieniemy gets the opportunity he deserves and finds his way back to the NFL sooner than later.
