The Kansas City Chiefs saw another former player change teams this preseason, with defensive lineman Khalen Saunders being dealt from New Orleans to Jacksonville. Saunders was a key piece in the Chiefs' rotation during his tenure, helping the franchise win two Super Bowls before departing to join the Saints. Saunders would make his name all the more memorable when he returned to face the Chiefs and picked off Patrick Mahomes for his first career interception. It was an incredible moment for a player who spent his best seasons with the franchise.

However, it seems the Saints weren't as content as the defender was with the current roster. Saunders was dealt in exchange for offensive line depth, with the Jaguars hoping to bolster their defensive line depth. It is a solid move for both sides. While neither team is expected to be a playoff contender, it fixes an obvious roster concern.

No matter whether the former Chief stayed in New Orleans or not, the results are going to stay the same. At least in Jacksonville, Saunders has a hope of making a surprise run with the Jaguars in the weakest AFC division and having new leadership.

Former Chiefs Defender Khalen Saunders Heartbroken Over New Landing Spot

Saunders posted an incredibly heartfelt reaction to the trade, making it clear he wasn't happy leaving the Saints. The defender talked about the franchise feeling like home and holding a place in his heart, even as he made the move to a new franchise. It is a bit surprising when you consider what a losing culture the Saints have established after the departure of Drew Brees.

New Orleans is easily one of the worst rosters in the league, leaving this move as an improvement. Still, there is no denying that the Jaguars have a worse culture and history. Saunders moved from a Super Bowl contender to a struggling respected franchise, and now to a team that is an afterthought in the NFL landscape.

For the Chiefs, this is a reminder of what Saunders helped the team accomplish and the depth they have brought in the years since. The Chiefs have no reason to consider a reunion and made the right decision turning the page. As long as the draft continues to yield positive results, it seems the franchise is happy only paying a very select list of defenders, counting on an incredible front office to find answers.
