Last season, the Kansas City Chiefs to find stability at left tackle. They started off the season with Wanya Morris as the starter before replacing him with Kingsley Suamataia. However, Suamataia struggled more than Morris, prompting the Chiefs to revert to Morris as the starter.

Despite regaining the job, Morris was a liability at left tackle, which led to the Chiefs signing veteran D.J. Humphries at the end of November. Though Humphries was still recovering from a torn ACL, Kansas City was planning to have him back for the playoff run. While Humphries returned before the playoffs, he didn't end up faring any better at left tackle.

As a result, Kansas City ended up starting All-Pro left guard Joe Thuney at left tackle during the playoffs. Due to his inability to improve the Chiefs' offensive line, Humphries was not re-signed this offseason. That said, a few days after the NFL Draft, it was reported that the 31-year-old signed with the San Francisco 49ers.

Seemingly, though, those reports weren't 100% accurate. On Thursday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reported that the two sides have yet to reach an agreement.

Former Chiefs Left Tackle D.J. Humphries Remains Unsigned

In 2024, Humphries allowed three sacks, three QB hits, five QB hurries and 11 QB pressures in two games, according to PFF. Although the Week 18 showdown with the Denver Broncos was insignificant for the Chiefs, Humphries' poor performance wasn't a good look.

Be that as it may, Humphries wouldn't have been going to San Francisco to be a starter. Therefore, many people, including Chiefs fans, looked at the original report as a good depth signing for the 49ers.

Although the reason a deal hasn't been finalized between the two parties hasn't been disclosed, it can be assumed that Humphries' medicals may have something to do with it. Even though he was unable to help Kansas City last season, hopefully, Humphries is able to land somewhere and finish his career on a higher note.
