Eric Bieniemy Lands New NFL Job With Former Chiefs Executive
By Joe Summers
The Kansas City Chiefs have enjoyed marvelous consistency in the coaching staff during this dynastic run, mostly keeping the same group together while winning three Super Bowls en route to maybe a fourth.
That said, the biggest change the staff has gone through was moving on from offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and bringing Matt Nagy back following the latter's firing by the Chicago Bears. Andy Reid, Steve Spagnuolo, Dave Toub and many key assistants haven't gone anywhere, but Bieniemy was seeking a better opportunity to become a head coach.
Things didn't go according to his plan, though now he's officially back in the NFL. Bieniemy reportedly agreed to become the Chicago Bears' running backs coach on Saturday after spending 2024 as the offensive coordinator at UCLA.
Former Chiefs OC Lands New Job With Bears
According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Bieniemy will reunite with former Chiefs executive Ryan Poles in Chicago. He'll return to his roots in the same position he held with Kansas City from 2013-2017.
The Bears' rushing attack left a lot to be desired last year. With an overhauled staff and big decisions looming in free agency, new head coach Ben Johnson clearly values a strong running game. His offenses in Detroit had two of the most productive backs in the NFL, so it's obvious that he wants to utilize Bieniemy's acumen to improve Chicago's backfield.
D'Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson are presumably the top two players Bieniemy will work with, though the Bears could make an addition in the draft or free agency. Either way, this is a great chance for Bieniemy to work with another staff and prove he deserves a bigger role in the league.
Even though the Chiefs are focused on trying to finish off this three-peat, it's exciting to see Bieniemy back in the NFL, and Chiefs Kingdom is rooting for his success.
