The Kansas City Chiefs have been one of the most consistently great teams in the NFL ever since Patrick Mahomes took over as quarterback, and that has led to a number of veterans electing to take their talents to Kansas City in hopes of competing for a Super Bowl.

With many of these veterans signing short-term deals with the franchise, it isn't uncommon to see the vets who were used more as depth pieces rather than starters ultimately move on to another organization upon the completion of their contract.

While many of those veterans have signed elsewhere this offseason, there are still a handful of former Chiefs still available on the open market and at least one of them could be forced to wait a while longer before latching on with another franchise.

Don't Expect Unsigned Carson Wentz to Find a New Job in April

Carson Wentz served as Patrick Mahomes' primary backup this past season and made three appearances, including one start, during the 2024 campaign. Fortunately for the Chiefs, Wentz was not called upon more than that due to any sort of injury issues popping up for the team's All-Pro signal caller.

The days of Wentz being a starter in the NFL are likely behind him, but he certainly can still be a benefit to a franchise as a reliable option as a backup who could also mentor younger quarterbacks as they look to make the transition to the professional level.

The problem for Wentz is that players taking on that type of role typically wait around a bit longer than their peers when it comes to signing free agent contracts as the NFL Draft has an impact on those decisions. With that being the case, expect for Wentz to remain on the market throughout the month of April.

With Gardner Minshew now entrenched behind Mahomes as Kansas City's primary backup, Wentz won't be able to bank on a return to the Chiefs, but there should be other opportunities out there as the former No. 2 overall pick and his representation continue to search for the best possible landing spot for the quarterback.
