The Kansas City Chiefs have a big offseason ahead of them after falling short in Super Bowl 59. The Chiefs will be investing in the trenches and receiver this offseason to improve this roster.

While they have Trent McDuffie as their No. 1 CB, they could use another playmaker in the secondary. And the latest report on CB D.J. Reed could bode well for the Chiefs.

Connor Hughes of SNY revealed that the New York Jets don't plan to re-sign Reed and will allow him to hit the open market.

D.J. Reed Will Hit Free Agency and Could Be a Choice for the Chiefs

The Chiefs had Jaylen Watson miss an extended period of time due to a fractured ankle, forcing Nazeeh Johnson into action last season.

Adding a player like Reed into the fold would elevate the Chiefs' secondary. Reed also has a connection to the area as he played his college ball at Kansas State from 2016-2017.

The 28-year-old has played with the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, and New York Jets in his career. Over the past three seasons with the Jets (46 starts), Reed has finished with 220 total tackles, seven TFLs, 32 pass breakups, and two interceptions. This past season, he finished with a 70.7 overall grade and a 70.1 coverage grade per PFF.

If the Chiefs find a way to land Reed, it will automatically give Kansas City one of the best CB duos in the league.

That remains to be seen, though, as Reed's price is expected to be high. According to Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz, Reed could command an annual salary "in the high teens."

The Chiefs likely won't be Reed's highest offer on the free agent if they decide to pursue him. Kansas City is currently $15 million over the cap per Spotrac and has Justin Reid, Charles Omenihu, Marquise Brown, and Tershawn Wharton hitting free agency.

If Reed is opening to take a lower deal to play on a championship contender, it is one way the Chiefs could land him.
