Now that the dust has settled and the three-peat dream is over, the Kansas City Chiefs must begin retooling the roster in hopes of getting the job done in next year's Super Bowl. Numerous key players aren't under contract in 2025, so the front office now must begin the difficult process of deciding who will return and who won't.

Five-time All-Pro WR DeAndre Hopkins, whom the Chiefs traded for midseason from the Tennessee Titans, was underwhelming in the playoffs but still had strong moments. Some thought he could retire, inspiring rumors on social media, though Hopkins quickly shut down that idea in a since-deleted tweet.

Whether Hopkins plays in Kansas City again or elsewhere, he made it clear that he still has some gas left in the tank.

DeAndre Hopkins Shuts Down Retirement Rumors After Super Bowl Loss

"Don't know what you heard but I'm not done yet," Hopkins posted on X. The 12-year veteran has now played for four different franchises though just experienced his first real playoff run. After getting a taste of what real success can feel like, it's understandable that Hopkins would want to keep chasing a Super Bowl victory.

The Chiefs' wide receiver room is one of the most interesting position groups on the team moving forward. Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice are foundational pieces, but everyone aside from those two remains a question mark. Justin Watson, Mecole Hardman, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquise 'Hollywood' Brown, and Hopkins are all free agents. Based on the nature of the business, it's almost guaranteed that one or more of those guys will be on new teams.

Watson, Hardman, and Smith-Schuster all have an advantage from an experience standpoint. They've been in the offense for multiple years and know the system, yet none of them offer the same potential impact that Brown or Hopkins do. After the success Brett Veach had in the NFL Draft with Worthy and Rice, it's probable that Kansas City will look to pick another rookie wideout as well.

Conversations have likely already begun in the building about what players to bring back. Hopkins is an intriguing option to re-sign on a one-year deal, but we'll have to see where the dominos fall before we can feel confident he'll remain in a Chiefs uniform.
