DeAndre Hopkins Already Having a Positive Impact on Chiefs Locker Room
The Kansas City Chiefs have been rolling through the first two months of the NFL season and own an 8-0 record. Despite being slammed with multiple injuries to key playmakers, they have found ways to win on game day.
One player who has improved this team is receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who was acquired on Oct. 23. Even though he's only been in Kansas City for two weeks, his impact is felt all over the team.
Rookie receiver Xavier Worthy spoke to reporters on Friday about Hopkins' influence on the team and has raved about his impact in the locker room.
"Just as calm and poised through times like in the game, he was super calm, chill, relaxed. So when somebody’s like dad in your room, and he’s a vet, he’s been there, made plays, it just makes everything easier."
- Xavier Worthy
When you read Worthy's comments after Hopkins' performance in Week 9 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, you see exactly what he's talking about. Hopkins finished with eight receptions for 86 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Travis Kelce had 14 catches for a season-high 100 yards. The entire offense looked comfortable and opened things up for everyone on the field.
His calming presence also rubs off on his teammates on the field and behind closed doors.
Another underrated factor that may be forgotten is Hopkins' impact on young guys like Worthy and he alluded to that as well.
Worthy said, "I try to pick his brain as much as possible without being super annoying. Ask him, like, little questions, like, How’d you go about this when you’re this age, and stuff like that, just little things. Just make sure I stay tuned with everything he went through."
The fact that Worthy gets to gain knowledge from a five-time Pro Bowler and three-time First Team All-Pro is massive for his development.
The addition of Hopkins is having ripple effects on the team and will only get better as the season progresses.
