Five weeks into the NFL season, injuries are beginning to pile up. The grueling football season has begun to take a toll on teams, forcing them to look for valuable depth pieces to bolster their roster. This means teams desperate for help will start bringing in more free-agents for visits.

Among these free agents looking for their next opportunity is former Kansas City Chiefs defender Kendall Fuller. On Monday, NFL insider Ari Meirov reported that Fuller had a workout with the Indianapolis Colts, who are dealing with injuries in the secondary.

Former Chief Kendall Fuller Is Still Looking for His Next NFL Opportunity

Fuller has been without a team since his release by the Miami Dolphins in February, which is rather surprising considering that he was still solid and reliable last season. He started all 11 of the games he suited up for, putting up five pass breakups, and allowing a 62.8% completion rate and a 92.8 passer rating in coverage. Plenty of backfield defenders with worse numbers are currently on rosters.

While no deal has materialized so far, it's hard to imagine Fuller remaining on the free agent market for much longer. The Colts have surprisingly allowed the third-fewest points in the NFL through five weeks, but are dealing with injuries to cornerbacks Mike Hilton and Kenny Moore ahead of Week 6. Fuller could come in as an experienced and versatile defender to give the secondary a boost.

Considering the level of competition in the AFC South and the strength of the Colts' schedule so far, Chiefs fans have every right to be skeptical of Indianapolis' chances of threatening them for the AFC Championship. But there's a good chance the Colts will end up winning their division, potentially facing off with the Chiefs in the playoffs. If Fuller ends up signing with the Colts, the veteran could face his former team for only the second time since his departure after winning the Super Bowl in 2020.

Fuller will be best remembered by Chiefs fans for his game-sealing interception in Super Bowl LIV. In his two-year Chiefs career that began with being in the return package for Alex Smith, Fuller made a lasting impression. Many would have liked the Chiefs to re-sign him that offseason, but they were priced out by Washington, which gave him a four-year, $40 million deal. Fuller was never able to repeat the success he found in Kansas City, but he has continued to be a true difference-maker.
