The Kansas City Chiefs need to get back on track on Sunday. Unfortunately for them, a date with the red-hot Indianapolis Colts is definitely not what the doctor ordered, especially with them coming off a bye week.
Colts GM Chris Ballard already made a big move to bolster their defense by trading for star cornerback Sauce Gardner. And now, the Colts have added veteran defensive lineman Chris Wormley to the mix as well, according to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler.
Colts Strengthen Defensive Line Ahead of Chiefs Matchup
The Chiefs could've caught a break as DeForest Buckner is expected to miss some time after being placed on injured reserve with a neck injury.
The Colts' pass rush isn't elite, as they have a 7.16 percent sack percentage, which ranks 12th in the league. Not having Buckner out there was only going to make things tougher for the Colts' defense on Sunday against KC's offense. Now, they have a proven veteran who, albeit not a superstar, can certainly put pressure at the line of scrimmage.
Despite his limited snaps last season with the Baltimore Ravens, Wormley still logged a 68.5 Pro Football Focus grade. He also had three tackles and one pressure in just 33 snaps.
He hasn't played this season and might only be there for depth, but Wormley should be extremely motivated to prove that he's still got it if he gets the nod and is activated for this game.
Patrick Mahomes didn't have his sharpest performance in the loss to the Denver Broncos. Play-calling didn't do much to help his case, and facing one of the best, if not the best, pass-rushing units in the game only made things worse.
The Chiefs only had 311 total yards of offense, threw a pick, and allowed three sacks for a loss of 27 yards. Also, penalties were a massive problem, resulting in ten flags for a loss of 69 yards. The Chiefs' offensive line can't seem to play disciplined football, and with the Colts constantly putting pressure at the line of scrimmage, that could be an issue again on Sunday.
Andy Reid's team is traveling unchartered territory with a 5-5 record after ten weeks. And while Wormley might not suit up at all or be much of a factor, this team can't afford to overlook any of its opponents right now, and he might just become another headache.
