Upgrading the pass rush will be one of Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach's top priorities when free agency begins next month. The Chiefs' 35.0 sacks in 2025 were tied for the seventh-fewest in the league, making it clear that Veach & Co. must find some help for Chris Jones and George Karlaftis.

When it comes to potential solutions to Detroit's pass-rushing woes, a former AFC West rival could be an option in free agency, including Joey Bosa.

After spending the first part of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers, Bosa joined a rival outside of K.C.'s division, spending 2025 with the Buffalo Bills. He had an average season by his standards, finishing his first season in Buffalo with five sacks, and will now hit free agency.

Joey Bosa Could Be on Chiefs' Free Agency Radar

Bosa hitting the open market could give the Chiefs a buy-low option for an experienced pass rusher who had double-digit sacks four times, with the most recent coming in the 2021 season. Kansas City fans have seen firsthand how impactful Bosa can be, as the five-time Pro Bowl disruptor has amassed 6.5 sacks in 13 all-time clashes with the Chiefs — the third-most he has against any franchise.

The Chiefs know what Bosa is capable of and would be wise to sign what has previously been a consistent thorn in their side. Not only would they be signing a former division rival to help regain control of the AFC West, but they'd be stealing from a Bills team that is one of the conference's biggest threats.

Bosa is only 30, but would still bring a high level of accomplishment to the position, having 77.0 career sacks and 22 forced fumbles. Spotrac is projecting him to earn $13.7 million annually on his next deal, and while the Chiefs aren't oozing with cap space, Patrick Mahomes' contract restructure from early this week will help.

Even though he's used to playing against the Chiefs, joining his former rival might be too tempting for Bosas to ignore. Not only would it be a chance for him to get back at the Chargers, but it also provides a path to a potential Super Bowl if GM Veach can successfully execute the rest of his offseason plan.

Jones and Karlaftis need pass-rushing help, and signing Bosa would be a huge way to accomplish that. The ex-Charger is exactly who the Chiefs need to turn their pass rush into a legitimate threat again, making it interesting to see if Veach has what it takes to convince Bosa to cross enemy lines next month.
