The Kansas City Chiefs really dropped the ball at the trade deadline. Despite all the rumors and being 5-4 and entering the bye week fresh off a loss to the Buffalo Bills, they stood pat and didn't make any moves.

This team has plenty of talent on both sides of the field, but their flaws have been quite evident in the first half of the season. They could've used some punch in the running game, which is why failing to land Breece Hall could come back to doom them in the playoffs.

The Chiefs Needed Breece Hall in The Worst Way

According to SNY Jets insider Connor Hughes, the Chiefs did reach out to the Jets to inquire about Hall. Nevertheless, GM Brett Veach wasn't willing to meet their asking price, even though it seemed pretty reasonable:

"With Breece Hall, there was an offer on the table for a fourth-round pick for Breece Hall," Hughes said. "I was told it was from the Kansas City Chiefs that were willing to trade for Breece Hall. The Jets were steadfast in wanting a third."

We're talking about the same Brett Veach who traded a third-round pick for Kadarius Toney. While it's nice to know that he's someone who learns from his mistakes, not giving up a third-round selection for a player of Hall's caliber was not a similar scenario to the one with Toney.

Hall had already let the Jets know that he wanted to be traded, so perhaps Veach just thought he had more leverage than he actually had. Granted, New York also messed things up by not dealing a disgruntled soon-to-be free agent out of town during its fire sale, but the Jets are not known for running a smooth operation.

The Chiefs' underwhelming running back corps has been a talking point all year long. Patrick Mahomes is their third-leading rusher with 285 rushing yards, just behind Kareem Hunt (294) and Isiah Pacheco (329). Pacheco is out with an injury and hasn't been as explosive this season, and Hall could've been a long-term solution at the position.

Despite the Jets' offensive woes and negative game script, Hall is up to 581 rushing yards on 117 carries, adding two touchdowns and averaging a respectable five rushing yards per rush attempt. He also has 21 receptions on 30 targets for 178 receiving yards.

The Chiefs have never lost more than six games in a season in the Patrick Mahomes era, but after watching them stay put at the trade deadline, it seems like that's going to change this season.
