Following the Kansas City Chiefs' blowout loss in the Super Bowl, many fans and analysts began speculating on whether the team may bring new assistant coaches in. Bringing in potential new perspectives would give the team a bit of a new outlook in 2025. That said, many expected the Chiefs to bring in new perspectives on the offensive side of the ball.

Instead, Kansas City has hired two new defensive coaches. Hiring Matt House as a senior defensive assistant and former NFL linebacker Chris Orr. While Orr's position on the staff has yet to be publicly stated, Chiefs linebacker Leo Chenal seems excited by the hire.

On Tuesday night, Chenal showed off his excitement.

Leo Chenal is Excited to Work with Chris Orr in 2025

Chenal quoted Orr's tweet announcing his hiring by the Chiefs, showing clear excitement by saying "Death Row full steam ahead! We ready to work!!"

The former University of Wisconsin linebacker had a productive collegiate career. In four seasons, Orr recorded 187 tackles, 14 TFLs, 11.5 sacks, five pass deflections, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Although Orr had an above-average college career, he went undrafted in the 2020 NFL draft.

Orr was then signed by the Carolina Panthers, alternating between the practice squad and active roster as a rookie. Ultimately, Orr ended up being waived by the Panthers before the 2021 season, ending his NFL career.

Orr then had stints in the USFL and UFL before his playing career ended due to injuries; this past year, Orr was the linebackers coach for Jackson State. Given his success on the college level and understanding of the game, Chenal's excitement for Orr's addition to the coaching staff makes sense.

In his first three seasons in the NFL, Chenal has continually shown flashes of playmaking ability. Over three seasons, Chenal has recorded 160 tackles, five sacks, four tackles for loss, four pass deflections and three forced fumbles. Furthermore, Chenal had a game-sealing blocked field goal in 2024.

Despite having a limited snap count in his first three seasons, Chenal has proven to be a difference-maker. In 2025, Chenal has a chance to be a starting linebacker if Kansas City is unable to retain Nick Bolton. Chenal excitement shows that he believes that Orr's coaching can help take his game to the next level.
