Among the Kansas City Chiefs' undrafted rookie signings was Washington receiver Omari Evans. The pass catcher is wasting zero time making an impression with Chiefs reporter Matt McMullen offering, " Omari Evans was a standout, catching multiple passes during 11-on-11, including an over-the-shoulder grab deep down the sideline." This is extremely noteworthy for a speedy option that has a very real chance to make the end of Kansas City's depth chart at the position.

The Chiefs lost both Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster to free agency, then responded by re-signing and promoting Tyquan Thornton and drafting Cyrus Allen in the fifth round. It isn't a hot take to point out that the bottom of the depth chart at the position remains wide open. Evans is doing his best ot throw his name into the hat and become a viable option for one of the team's final roster spots.

Chiefs Undrafted Rookie Omari Evans Wasting Zero Time Making Clear Impression

It isn't an impossibility when you consider the speed of the pass catcher and the obvious creativity it could allow Andy Reid and Eric Bieniemy. There is also a potential opportunity to utilize the explosive ability of Evans in the return game. No question, the undrafted rookie is going to have a road to competing for a roster spot and is off to a solid start.

For Evans, it speaks volumes that the stage hasn't daunted the pass catcher in the early going. Putting together an early hot streak after being drafted by one of the league's prestigious franchises is extremely telling.

With that said, it is still important to note that there is a reason why the pass catcher went undrafted with only 818 college receiving yards and eight career touchdowns. While Evans has incredible speed, the receiver is yet to prove he can make a consistent impact, and that is a clear concern as he attempts to make the jump to the next level.

Still, there is no denying the excitement around the receiver and the elite ability of the KC coaching staff to develop it's players. If there is any franchise capable of turning Evans into a viable contributor at the next level, it is the Chiefs. There is also the fact that Patrick Mahomes has clearly wanted to unlock the deep ball over the past two seasons, and having a player with the speed of Evans could help accomplish this.

Evans is taking early advantage of his opportunity and giving the Chiefs every reason to believe the team made the right decision bringing in the rookie free agent. Fans can only hope that this momentum is a sign of things to come and will continue throughout the summer and into the Kansas City preseason.
