The Kansas City Chiefs have won two straight games and are 2-2 on the season. The Jacksonville Jaguars are next on the docket as the Chiefs travel to play them on Monday Night Football.
While the Chiefs seek to get over .500, they could be taking some extra precautions in practice, as the weather may play a factor in the game. As of Thursday, Jacksonville has warnings for High Surf Advisory, High Rip Current Risk, Coastal Flood Advisory, and Coastal Flood Watch until Sunday evening. Despite being under advisement until Sunday, there will likely be rain showers and a potential thunderstorm on Monday night.
With this being a potential factor, Charles Goldman of AtoZSports added that fans should expect more ball security drills in practice this week in preparation for the contest.
Weather Could Play a Factor in Chiefs vs. Jaguars on MNF
This is something that could play into Jacksonville's favor, as their defense has been flying around through the first month of the season. The Jaguars have forced an NFL-high 13 turnovers, and it plays a big role in why they are 3-1.
Head coach Andy Reid knows the challenges this unit presents and gave some praise ahead of the matchup. Reid said, "They catch the ball well, first of all, and they work there. They’re disciplined in their lanes, on their zone drops, opportunistic on tipped balls, and then they’ve stripped out a couple of balls. They go after it. You’ve got to make sure that you’re aware of that as you play them, for sure."
Kansas City is one of three teams in the NFL to give away one turnover through four games. Winning the turnover battle is one of the biggest keys to securing victories in the NFL, and Kansas City knows that.
They will have to be extra diligent in this matchup, especially if the rain is pouring down. Handing over the ball is a recipe for disaster in the NFL. Jacksonville has won the turnover battle in all four games this season and highlights how that defense leaped under first-year defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile.
The Jags have a +9 turnover ratio, which leads the NFL. Kansas City has done an excellent job protecting the ball and will need to do that on another level Monday night. They will go up against a feisty defense, but the weather could go against them as well. It'll be an interesting AFC matchup to close out Week 5, as the Chiefs seek to improve to 3-2.
