The Chiefs announced a surprise kicker addition on Thursday after stunning news that Harrison Butker would be placed on the injured reserve list and miss at least four games.

To replace the NFL's best kicker, Kansas City signed Spencer Shrader off the New York Jets' practice squad. Schrader is 100% on his attempts at the professional level, though he's only attempted two field goals.

It's a discouraging sign for the Chiefs' chances against not only the Bills, but in future weeks.

Chiefs Reportedly Place K Harrison Butker on IR Before Week 11

This is a shocking revelation from the organization. Butker is justifiably regarded as the league's most elite kicker, especially in clutch situations.

On the season, Butker is 18-20. He's routinely come up in the most important playoff situations and is one of the most dependable players on the roster. Make no mistake, losing Butker is a massive problem.

Regarding Shrader, he has little-to-no NFL experience. To be honest, his college work offers little room for optimism.

Shrader made 43 of his 63 collegiate kicks at Notre Dame. He was effective at connecting on extra points, but he's not even close to Butker's efficiency. Reid will have to be more aggressive on fourth downs, and the Chiefs offense as a hole has to understand how large of a loss Butker's injury represents.

Fans should be concerned. This is a huge matchup against the Bills on Sunday and Butker has always been one of the team's most reliable weapons. He won't be there, and now a brand new kicker is taking over.

It's reasonable to believe they'll figure it out, but the Chiefs have a big problem moving forward.
