The Kansas City Chiefs are currently dealing with attrition in their cornerback room. Last Friday, during their second preseason game, cornerbacks Nazeeh Johnson (shoulder) and rookie Nohl Williams (concussion) left the game and have yet to practice this week. In addition, new addition Kristian Fulton has dealt with an injury throughout training camp, but is expected to be ready for Week 1.

That said, there is some uncertainty around whether one former Chiefs cornerback will be available for Week 1. According to Around the NFL, Tennessee Titans cornerback L'Jarius Sneed may miss week 1 due to a quad injury. The uncertainty around the former Chiefs' status shouldn't surprise anyone if you have been following Sneed since he left Kansas City.

Former Chiefs CB L'Jarius Sneed Could Miss Week 1 for the Titans

Since being shipped off to Tennessee, Sneed has been dealing with injuries. Last year, the 28-year-old began training camp practicing on a day-to-day basis due to a lingering knee issue. This is the same knee injury that led Brett Veach to trade him instead of giving him a contract extension.

Ultimately, that injury didn't affect Sneed in the regular season. Even so, he did end up on the Titans' injured reserve after only playing five games due to a quadriceps issue. When training camp began, Sneed was still nursing that quad injury, which landed him on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

The fact that the 28-year-old's status for Week 1 is still unclear is not good for Tennessee. However, it does make Veach look smart for trading him. Although injuries can never be foreseen, it can sometimes be easier to tell when a player's body may start to give out on them. Veach and the Chiefs' training staff likely saw that in his future, leading to the trade.

Despite Kansas City's cornerback room being banged up right now, they are still in a better position than they would have been if they had kept Sneed. Not only would they be dealing with a consistently injured player, but he would have also been eating up a huge part of the salary cap. If that were the case, the Chiefs would likely not be able to get a deal done with Trent McDuffie.

McDuffie is by far a more valuable player than Sneed, and losing him would hurt the Chiefs' defense. Therefore, Sneed's injury continues to highlight that Kansas City made the right move by moving on.
