Chiefs Star Provides Huge Health Update Coming Off of Playoff Bye
By Jovan Alford
The No. 1 seed Kansas City Chiefs will begin their playoff journey this weekend in the divisional round against the Houston Texans. The Chiefs are looking to win their third-straight Super Bowl, cementing them as one of the NFL's dynasties.
However, Kansas City won’t have it easy as the AFC has been fantastic this season, with the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, and Texans standing in their way. The good news for the Chiefs is that they are 100 percent healthy for Saturday’s playoff game, which means fans will see star defender Chris Jones back on the field.
Jones suffered a calf injury in the first meeting between these two teams in Week 16, forcing him to miss the final two games of the regular season. The veteran defensive lineman was a full participant on Tuesday, which is a good sign for his availability for Saturday.
On Wednesday, Jones met with the media and gave an update on his health coming off the bye week.
Chiefs News: Chris Jones Feels 'Really Really Good' Ahead of Divisional Round
According to Pete Sweeney of Arrowhead Pride, the veteran defender said he benefitted from the three weeks and feels “really really good” heading into this weekend’s game. In KC’s Week 16 win over the Texans, Jones had five quarterback pressures, four QB hits, and two combined tackles.
A healthy Jones is excellent news for the Chiefs’ defense and bad news for Houston’s offensive line. Even though Jones didn’t have a sack in the Week 16 win, the Chiefs had two sacks and 11 quarterback hits.
Last week, the Chargers’ defense sacked Texans QB C.J. Stroud three times but only had five QB hits. Jones only recorded five sacks but also posted 38 QB pressures and 20 QB hits this season.
The 30-year-old Pro Bowler hasn’t been able to bring down the quarterback, but he’s still getting into the backfield and applying pressure, which is equally good.
