The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off another appearance in the Super Bowl, but last year is last year, and the focus now is on what this team can do moving forward.
It appears as though looking toward the future is an approach that one of the team's top players has adopted as they are entering the final year of their contract with the Chiefs. While the veteran has accomplished everything he could have hoped for thus far in his career, there is still one thing he wants to achieve, which will be addressed over the next 12 months.
Entering Contract Year, Travis Kelce Sends Message to Chiefs' Front Office
The last time Travis Kelce took the field for Kansas City, he admittedly had a less-than-stellar performance against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. That has left a bad taste in his mouth as we enter the 2025 campaign and the All-Pro tight end plans to make things right in what could, potentially, be his final run with the Chiefs.
With Kelce entering the final year of his contract, the veteran tight end made it clear to Zak Keefer of The Athletic that he couldn't envision ever suiting up for a different franchise, despite his love for the game of football and the belief he can still contribute at a high-level, were the two sides not agree on a new deal.
“I got one year on this contract — I know that,” Kelce said. “The Chiefs organization knows how much I love them. I can’t see myself ever playing anywhere else. So we’ll deal with that down the road.”
Kelce is doing the smart thing here by putting the ball in the Chiefs' court. Everything he said to Keefer will make fans love him even more. We have seen this scenario play out before, though, and it doesn't always have a happy ending for the players and teams in question.
If things ultimately reach that boiling point where Kelce is determined to continue playing and the Chiefs are ready to move on, then the star tight end will have done everything in his power to do right by the fans in Kansas City.
