Chiefs Sign Perfect CB in Latest Free Agency Prediction
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs have a clear hole in the secondary that needs to be addressed, as guys like Nazeeh Johnson and Joshua Williams have failed to fill L'Jarius Sneed's role alongside Trent McDuffie.
One recent suggestion from Bleacher Report sees Kansas City filling that weakness with a marquee free agent who could help solidify the defense.
Bills CB Rasul Douglas is a pending free agent and would be an ideal fit. Whether or not the Chiefs would go after him remains a question, but he'd be a great target in theory.
Chiefs Predicted to Sign Bills CB Rasul Douglas in Offseason
During his eight-year career, Douglas has played for the Eagles, Packers, Panthers, and Bills. The 30-year-old is an aging corner, which suggests Chiefs general manager Brett Veach likely won't sign him. Nonetheless, it's a fun marriage to consider.
"The Chiefs have built their cornerback room around young talents on cheap rookie contracts. That's always nice, but they also struggled to have enough money to keep L'Jarius Sneed, precipitating a trade with the Tennessee Titans this year," writes Bleacher Report. "It would be nice if they could just keep finding hidden gems at the position in the draft, but that's easier said than done."
Realistically, this is not an option for Kansas City. Veach always prioritizes youth, though Douglas is six-foot-two and 209 pounds, representing the size defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo covets.
Bleacher Report continues, "Talking a veteran like Douglas in to coming to Kansas City on a one- or two-year deal would bring some stability to the unit next season."
It's a fair point and an acquisition that should be considered, but there's still a low likelihood of it becoming reality.
