The Kansas City Chiefs are in a rough spot after falling to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day. Although the Chiefs' outlook isn't exactly the most glamorous right now, especially with the postseason being far from guaranteed, that isn't stopping ex-Kansas City wideout Tyreek Hill from seemingly hinting that he wants to return to the franchise where it all began.
On Friday morning, Hill tweeted out, "I need to go home." That led to sparks flying under the post, with Chiefs fans asking for him to return to Kansas City, but that isn't what they need. They should actually steer away from a Hill reunion because it's abundantly clear that it won't be beneficial for what the team actually needs.
Tyreek Hill Reunion Isn't What Chiefs Need
It's been a while now that Hill has flirted with the idea of coming back to the Chiefs, and it likely won't be the last either. Even though it's not 100% confirmed that this post was related to the Chiefs, it was left up to interpretation.
And Hill's several pleas to get sent back to the Chiefs show that the grass is not always greener on the other side. While he was able to put up some stellar numbers with the Dolphins (4,733 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns in 54 games), he has yet to win a single postseason game with them.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs have won two Super Bowls and made three of them during that same stretch. And a couple of years ago, this reunion could have made sense, but those days are over. According to Spotrac, Kansas City will be more than $30.9 million over the salary cap for the 2026 season, indicating they'll need to make some cuts to get under the cap and not add Hill's $51.8 million hit.
That's without mentioning how that's a huge number for a player who might not even suit up. Back in Week 4, he suffered a dislocated knee with multiple torn ligaments, including a torn ACL. This injury puts his status for next season in doubt.
Why would the Chiefs give up an asset for an injury WR who will turn 32 years old in March? They have several other holes on the team that need to get better, including a running back and more pass-rush help for Chris Jones and George Karlaftis, so it's safe to say any money that could be spent on Hill should be spread out elsewhere.
The Chiefs' WR room is also in good shape, with Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy as two staples, along with a solid supporting cast in Hollywood Brown and Tyquan Thornton. There's not enough room for a guy like Hill to return as Kansas City has bigger fish to fry next offseason, meaning any potential reunion talks should start and end now.
