The Kansas City Chiefs have gone to great lengths to revamp their defense this offseason. From drafting Mansoor Delane and R Mason Thomas to signing Khyiris Tonga, Steve Spagnuolo's unit will look significantly different next season.
Of course, they also lost some crucial contributors like Bryan Cook, Jaylen Watson, and Trent McDuffie. Even with a newcomer like Kader Kohou in town, general manager Brett Veach should stay active in the free agent market.
As ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported, the Indianapolis Colts just released CB Kenny Moore II, and he'd be a solid pickup for Andy Reid's team: "Veteran safety Kenny Moore asked for and was granted his release from the Indianapolis Colts today, per source," Schefter shared on X.
Kenny Moore II makes perfect sense for the Chiefs
The Chiefs signed Kohou after he missed the entire 2025 season with a torn ACL. However, even when healthy, he left plenty to be desired as a slot cornerback for the Miami Dolphins. Moore, on the other hand, is a battle-tested nine-year veteran and a former Pro Bowler. He's a reliable nickel corner with 21 career interceptions, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, four defensive touchdowns, and 68 passes defensed. He's the type of ball-hawk the Chiefs need.
Despite starting just seven of his 14 games last season, Moore still managed to log 55 total tackles, one pick-six, and six passes defensed. The Colts' decision to release him wasn't based on his production or health. It was a cost-cutting move, given that he wasn't a strong fit for Lou Anarumo's defensive scheme, and they weren't willing to give him a contract extension.
His trade value took a big hit once he openly requested a trade or release, with teams unwilling to part with trade assets for a guy who was likely to be a free agent anyway. Now, the Chiefs have to swoop right in and make sure he doesn't leave Arrowhead without a new deal.
This team is looking to get back to the mountaintop after a 6-11 season. Even if they already addressed this position on paper, they can't hesitate to get a better player now that he's become available. Sorry, Kohou, it's not personal, just business.
