The Kansas City Chiefs made seven picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, and the fallout from those picks is already underway. Plenty of veterans on the team are at risk of being let go to make way for younger, often less expensive talent.
With the selection of former Utah State Aggies standout wide receiver Jalen Royals in the fourth round, a fan favorite in Kansas City for the work he has done on the Chiefs' special teams unit over the last two seasons could now be in jeopardy of losing his spot on the roster.
Chiefs Sealed Nikko Remigio's Fate With Decision to Draft Jalen Royals
NFL fans love a feel-good story, and Remigio's path to becoming a contributor in Kansas City earned the respect and admiration of Chiefs fans despite the fact that he was a lesser-known name on a national level.
While his statistics won't blow you away, Remigio has recorded a total of two receptions for 48 yards on six targets, it was his contributions on special teams that made Remigio memorable. Perhaps his greatest moment as a member of Kansas City's roster came in the 2024 AFC Championship game as Remigio's 44-yard punt return helped seal the deal in that game so that the Chiefs could punch their ticket to the Super Bowl.

This is certainly a moment that will be etched in Remigio's mind for the rest of his life and, if we are being honest, it will be a play that Chiefs fans remember for years to come. If it is the final highlight of his tenure in Kansas City, Remigio went out with a bang.
With the addition of Royals to the roster, Remigio's path to return to the team as a return specialist becomes less clear. The former Utah State product is capable of holding that job down in Kansas City and will likely be asked to take on a role in the return game in the early portion of his professional career.
Royals will certainly fill a need that Chiefs fans have been clamoring for, as wide receiver was a position that many hoped to see addressed at some point during the 2025 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, his addition to the wide receiver room makes the team less dependent on Remigio in the return game than they may otherwise have been.
If Remigio does wind up moving on from Kansas City, Chiefs fans will undoubtedly continue to support him as his career continues to unfold. That is, as long as they aren't taking on Patrick Mahomes and company that particular weekend.
