In February, the Kansas City Chiefs took a beating in the Super Bowl, losing 40-22 to the Philadelphia Eagles. The loss prompted Kansas City to make major changes to their offensive line during the offseason.

The Chiefs traded All-Pro guard Joe Thuney, signed left tackle Jaylon Moore, and drafted Ohio State left tackle Josh Simmons. They also drafted two players along the defensive line to help with their pass rush.

That said, Philadelphia also went through massive change. The Eagles lost defensive tackle Milton Williams, defensive end Josh Sweat, right guard Mekhi Becton and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. This left head coach Nick Sirianni, who Eagles fans questioned at the beginning of the 2024 season and also previously coached for the Chiefs from 2009-2012, to deal with the changes.

On paper, the additions Sirianni made to fill these holes seem good, yet questions still remained about his future with the team. On Monday, those questions were answered when the Philadelphia Eagles' official X account announced they reached a multi-year extension with Sirianni.

Chiefs Super Bowl Loss Paved the Way for Nick Sirianni's Contract Extension

At the start of the 2024 season, Sirianni was under a lot of fire from the fans. This resulted from him yelling at fans due to the Eagles' poor performance throughout the first four weeks of the season.
Sirianni's questionable actions led to the media wondering what he was doing and fans calling for his job.

Despite that, he went on to lead the Eagles to a 14-3 regular season and a Super Bowl appearance. As mentioned above, Philadelphia went on to dominate and win the Super Bowl. The dominant performance alongside Sirianni's 48-20 regular season record as head coach gives Chiefs fans reason to worry about the extension.

Nevertheless, Kansas City remains in a great spot as a franchise and will continue to compete with the Eagles for years to come.
