Chiefs Rival Waives White Flag With Shocking Projected Trade Before Deadline
By Cem Yolbulan
The Kansas City Chiefs are 7-0 heading into the halfway point of the season. They look like an excellent bet to win the AFC West once again and are obviously the frontrunners to make the Super Bowl.
Even though they already made big in-season moves acquiring DeAndre Hopkins and Joshua Uche, the Chiefs will presumably consider making more trades ahead of the Nov. 5 deadline. However, if GM Brett Veach can't find a deal, Chiefs fans will still feel pretty good about their chances in the second half of the year and the postseason.
One team that can't afford to sit idly by, however, is the Chiefs' division rivals, Las Vegas Raiders. After suffering four straight defeats, the Raiders are 2-6 for the season, with their hopes of a playoff appearance dwindling fast.
Therefore, there has been speculation about the Raiders being sellers at the deadline. Moving on from their valuable veterans in exchange for draft compensation makes plenty of sense.
Obviously, the player that would beget the biggest return for them is star pass rusher Maxx Crosby. One potential trade construction could be between the Detroit Lions and the Raiders that lands Las Vegas two first-round picks.
Crosby had signed a four-year, $94 million deal with the Raiders in the 2022 offseason and has one more year on his contract. While Las Vegas doesn't have to trade him, he already indicated that he is there "not to rebuild, but to win." It is clear that they are not winning right now, so the Raiders may not have a choice.
The three-time Pro Bowler has once again arguably been the Raiders' best player this season. Through seven games, he has 6.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, and 11 QB hits. Moving on from him would officially mean that the Raiders are punting on this season and potentially next.
