The entirety of OTAs for the Kansas City Chiefs likely revolves around solving the offensive issues that plagued the team throughout the regular season.
Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy has received his fair share of criticism due to his struggles following Eric Bieniemy's departure, though most fans would agree that his issues aren't the main focus. Instead, there's been a palpable loss regarding the coaching staff.
Former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly, who was thought to take over to inspire a new generation of Eagles football following Andy Reid, is already facing criticism for his comments with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Chiefs Rival's Coach Defending Himself Against Surprise OTAs Decision
In a media appearance during OTAs, Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator Kelly let his presence be known with comments regarding his focus on star rookie running back Ashton Jeanty.
"It literally is about three inches," Kelly said. "So I don't think it's a big deal."
He makes a fair argument, and Jeanty's production at Boise State clearly suggests he's capable of star production if he's asked for it. Regardless, it's an interesting comment suggesting that Jeanty's minute change could somehow have a significant impact on his production. Kelly was quick to shut that down, as he should bet, though Las Vegas has some in-house problems that need to be addressed.
Kelly was the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013-2015. Those were failed seasons, to be frank. However, he's considered to be one of the NFL's brightest offensive minds and now has a major opportunity under new Raiders head coach Pete Carroll as the offensive coordinator.
We'll see how things work out, though Kelly is a great addition to the coaching staff. Making these small changes to Jeanty's form should slightly scare Chiefs fans, as it'll likely make him better, though we all know Andy Reid is the superior coach.
Regardless, fans should keep an eye on Jeanty and Kelly moving forward.
