Chiefs Rival Laughably Rejected by Veteran Free Agent in Week 11
The Kansas City Chiefs currently sit as the AFC's top seed with a perfect 9-0 record. Their undefeated record gives them a two-game lead for the number-one seed in the AFC.
Ideally, the Chiefs maintain their spot at the top of the AFC and receive the benefits of it. Including a much needed first round bye and facing the lowest seeded remaining opponent in the divisional round.
If the season were to end today, the Los Angeles Chargers and the Denver Broncos would occupy the AFC's final two seeds. Unfortunately, it doesn't mean other teams still have the opportunity to make a playoff push.
That includes one of the Chiefs' biggest AFC rivals, the Cincinnati Bengals. Currently, the Bengals sit at 4-6 after a 35-34 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Cincinnati's lack of defense was not a new problem this past week against the Ravens — it has been an issue the whole season.
The Bengals' defense lacks star power on the back end. So, if they want to make a playoff push they must add help in that area.
According to Mike Garafolo, the Bengals hosted former Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard on a visit Monday. Sadly for the Bengals, it seems like the two sides couldn't reach an agreement.
This is great news for the Chiefs. Although the Bengals' chances of making the playoffs would be low, even with the addition of Howard, he would improve their defense. Even the smallest improvement for the Bengals on defense could push them higher into the playoff picture.
For now, the Chiefs don't have to worry about the Bengals' defense improving and having a real shot at making the playoffs. That's good news with how close the two teams' games always are.
