One of the Kansas City Chiefs' biggest AFC rivals over the past few seasons has been Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. Every time these two teams meet, the game ends up going down to the wire.

This year was no different, with the Chiefs winning 26-25 on a game-winning field goal. While the Bengals currently sit at 4-5, they aren't out of the playoff race yet, which means they could potentially see the Chiefs in the playoffs.

If these teams do end up meeting in the playoffs, the Chiefs will have a new Bengals player to defend.

According to Tom Pelissero, the Bengals have traded a seventh-round pick for Khalil Herbert.

Bengals Trade for Bears RB Khalil Herbert

When the Chiefs and Bengals meet in Week 2, Cincinnati only rushed for 74 total yards. Zack Moss led the charge that day with 12 carries for 34 yards.

Before the Bengals game last week Moss suffered a neck injury, which caused him to miss thier Week 9 game. Currently, there is no timetable for Moss's return, which is why the Bengals went and traded for Herbert.

Herbert was a sixth-round draft pick by the Bears in 2021 but has proved to be a solid running back in the NFL. As a rookie, Herbert had 103 rushes for 433 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 4.2 yards a carry.

2022 was Herbert's breakout season; he led the NFL in yards per carry with 5.7 on 129 attempts for 731 yards while also scoring four touchdowns. The following season, Herbert had 132 carries for 611 yards with two touchdowns and averaged 4.6 yards a carry.

Herbert did deal with injuries during 2022 and 2023, but when he is healthy, he has proven to be an explosive back.

The Bears' decision to move on from Herbert came after signing D'Andre Swift this offseason. Swift and Herbert have a similar style of play, so the Bears didn't feel a need to keep Herbert.

The Bengals adding Herbert gives them a new dimension to thier run game that has lacked punch this season. If these two teams meet again in the playoffs, the Chiefs will need to respect the Bengals' run game more.
