The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for the second half of the season. Andy Reid's team will come out of the bye week sitting on a somewhat disappointing 5-4 record, but there's still more than enough time to straighten the course of the ship.
With that in mind, GM Brett Veach has chosen to bring back a familiar face. Just one week after releasing him, the Chiefs have re-signed WR Jimmy Holiday, according to a report by Chiefs insider Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports.
Chiefs' Jimmy Holiday Split Was Short-Lived
The Chiefs had to cut ties with Holiday to make room for defensive end Malik Herring on the practice squad. Then, with Herring also being released from the active roster to make room for the return of DT Mike Pennel, the table was set for Holiday again.
The coaching staff and front office seemed high on Holiday and his potential in the preseason. So even though he may not be ready to contribute right away, it's not surprise that he stayed on their radar.
The Louisiana Tech product went undrafted in 2025. The New York Giants reportedly were also interested in signing him, but with the Chiefs holding rookie minicamp first, they managed to get him on the team for their 90-man offseason roster.
Jimmy Holiday Preseason Stats
- Snaps: 52
- Targets: 4
- Receptions: 3
- Yards: 60
- PFF grade: 64.6
It seemed like, despite being a relatively unknown prospect sitting low on the depth chart, Holiday would ultimately make the 53-man roster. He was one of the final roster cuts, but they brought him back almost immediately. Notably, the Buffalo Bills also tried to lure him away, hosting him for a tryout before ultimately signing fellow former Chiefs Demonte Harris and Mecole Hardman.
The Chiefs only have Holiday and Jason Brownlee as their practice squad wide receivers, but they're still not exactly the next ones up if someone on the active roster gets hurt. Jalen Royals has been a healthy scratch for the last two games, and he'd presumably get the gameday roster spot before Holiday or Brownlee.
With the wide receiver corps at full strength, Patrick Mahomes already has more mouths than he can feed. And as disappointing as some guys, like Hollywood Brown, have been, they still have ample depth in line. But Holiday is young, and the Chiefs clearly like his potential. He's someone to watch out for next offseason if he sticks around.
