After dropping to 0-2 on the season, the Kansas City Chiefs have reason for a healthy level of desperation offensively. Rashee Rice isn't returning until the middle of October, and the status of injured receivers Xavier Worthy and Jalen Royals remains in question moving forward. Royals is yet to make his debut, while Worthy suffered a Week 1 shoulder injury that knocked him out for most of the previous two games. This left Patrick Mahomes relying on a less-than-ideal cast of options.

With this in mind, there is no reason not to explore every possible option at your disposal. Looking at snaps this past week, Tyquan Thornton and Hollywood Brown were on the field the most consistently among KC pass catchers. The one piece who was only given two opportunities was Nikko Remigio. Remigio was the last piece to make the roster and has been given very little opportunity in the offense. This is understandable for the undrafted signing who has proven his worth on special teams. However, it makes sense to at least give Remigio a handful of snaps in Week 3 with the current level of desperation.

Chiefs Desperation Should Serve as Nikko Remigio's Opportunity in Kansas City's Rotation

This isn't meant to suggest that Remigio is a hidden gem who is destined to enjoy a breakout in Week 3. Rather, it is pointing out the reality that the current options aren't getting it done. The special teams speedster should have more than two snaps in an effort to figure out if there is a possible fit within Andy Reid's offense. The speed and ability to make the first man miss have been on display in the return game.

It is an elusive skill set among the current options at the position for Kansas City. Leading to the fact that if the Chiefs aren't going to make a move at the position, the very least you can do is explore all of your options. Even with Xavier Worthy expected back in the lineup for Week 3, there is no reason not to give Remigio a handful of snaps.

There is only an argument against this if the lost reps are going to hurt the offense moving forward. It isn't as if the current rotation is getting the job done, with Brown being the most consistent option out of the current pass catchers. This is as damaging a fact as any when you consider the receiver's obvious limitations as a primary option.

With this in mind, Remigio should at least be given 10-15 snaps just to see if Mahomes can find the undersized speedster in an effort to breathe more life into the offense. The wiser path would be to go out and add to the position either in free agency or via trade. However, it seems Kansas City's front office is oddly content sitting back and waiting.

Opening the door for Remigio to make a surprise Week 3 appearance in the Chiefs' offense. It is at least worth considering when you look at the current underwhelming options.
