The Kansas City Chiefs' offense looked much better in Week 4. And while facing the Baltimore Ravens' bottom-feeding defense certainly helped, the runing game is still a concern.
Rookie seventh-round pick Brashard Smith might be in for an expanded role in the following weeks, but Matt Nagy's offense has gotten next to nothing from Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt. With the Chiefs needing a boost to improve their 19th ranked rushing attack (110.5 yards per game), that's where De'Von Achane and the Miami Dolphins enter the equation.
The Chiefs Should Trade For De'Von Achane
The Dolphins finally won their first game of the season, but they lost star wide receiver Tyreek Hill for the year. Their playoff chances didn't look great before that, and with all the rumors about head coach Mike McDaniel, General Manager Chris Grier, and Tua Tagovailoa, this team is most likely going to sell at the trade deadline.
That's when the Chiefs need to offer the Dolphins a 2026 second-round pick to get their hands on their speedy playmaker. It's a steep price to pay, but Achane could take this offense to a whole new level with his shiftiness.
Achane averaged a whopping 7.8 rushing yards per carry in his rookie season, and while that was unsustainable in the long run, he's still posted decent averages at 4.5 and 4.9 yards per carry in the following two seasons.
His breakaway speed and acceleration, as well as his ability to change directions and make defenders miss, make him a perennial big-play waiting to happen, and the Chiefs have lacked that type of explosiveness all year long.
Also, he's a factor in the passing game and the two-minute offense as well. So far, he's logged 50 carries for 246 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown, adding 19 receptions on 25 targets for 143 yards and two scores.
Achane is also on a team-friendly deal, and he has another year left on his contract after this season, making him a free agent after the 2026 season and a potential long-term solution at the position.
The Chiefs might to run it back with their current RB corps for the next couple of weeks, but if the Dolphins drop another game, they should pick up the phone and at least touch base to inquire about his availability.
