The Kansas City Chiefs are still busy changing their 90-man roster as they prepare for the start of OTAs later this month.
According to the NFL transactions log for Thursday, the Chiefs waived running back Keaontay Ingram and wide receiver Justin Lockhart from injured reserve with an injury settlement. Ingram was also listed as injured.
That said, if the 25-year-old running back clears waivers on Friday, Ingram will revert to injured reserve.
Ingram was signed to the Chiefs' practice squad on November 30, 2023, after the Arizona Cardinals shockingly released him two days prior. The former sixth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft spent the rest of the 2023 campaign on the practice squad and was signed to a futures deal in February 2024.
The former Cardinals running back tried to compete for a spot on the 53-man roster but was cut ahead of the 53-man roster deadline last summer. However, Kansas City immediately re-signed him to the practice squad.
The Chiefs activated the former Cardinals running back from the practice squad to the active roster on September 18, 2024, but released him six days later. But two days later, Ingram was re-signed to the practice squad, where he finished the rest of the 2024 season.
With Ingram out of the picture, the Chiefs still have five running backs on the 90-man roster, which doesn’t include fullback Carson Steele. Kansas City also has an open roster spot to add someone before OTAs.
As for Lockhart, the 6-foot-3 wide receiver joined Kansas City as an undrafted free agent earlier this month following the team’s rookie minicamp.
The team initially waived Lockhart on May 6, and he was reverted to injured reserve. However, since he was let go with an injury settlement, the rookie will get to play with another team this upcoming season.
