Chiefs' Practice Facility for SB Week Provides Possible Disadvantage
By Joe Summers
The Kansas City Chiefs are embracing their role as the villains of the NFL, though it certainly feels like everyone in the country is praying for the Kingdom's downfall.
Kansas City is favored by 1.5 points over at FanDuel Sportsbook for good reason. They're the healthier team and have been the best team in the league all year and now sit just one win away from the first three-peat in the Super Bowl era.
However, the Chiefs' practice facility leaves much to be desired. While the Philadelphia Eagles will be at the New Orleans Saints' facility, Kansas City will instead be at Tulane with inferior accommodations.
Chiefs Given Inferior Practice Conditions for Super Bowl vs. Eagles
Zach Berman of PHLY reports that the Eagles will be at the Saints' freshly renovated digs and the Chiefs will be at nearby Tulane. On its face, that's not a big deal. It's customary for the team hosting the Super Bowl to let the team in their conference use their facilities.
The issue comes with Tulane itself, which has struggled to build an indoor practice field. Their plans for a "bubble" were scraped and they've resorted to taking buses to the Saints' facilities when poor weather strikes. The Chiefs won't have such a luxury available to them.
Fortunately, aside from some rain, the weather in New Orleans is expected to be tame. The Super Bowl itself will be played indoors at the Caesars Superdome, which bodes well for Patrick Mahomes. He's one of the best dome quarterbacks to ever live, and he probably won't mind that he practiced outdoors leading up to the game.
The Chiefs have been laser-focused on this singular goal all year long. There's just one week to go before they get the chance to etch their name in history, and not even practicing at Tulane's facilities can slow them down.
