The Chiefs' defense is once again perhaps the best in the NFL, yet they have an opportunity to add a cherry on top by signing recently released former All-Pro LB Devin White.

Kansas City's linebackers have felt the absence of Willie Gay Jr., struggling at times throughout the year. Philadelphia just cut White after injuries and some early-season drama, yet the 2019 first-round pick represents the kind of player that Brett Veach often targets.

White isn't the same player he was in 2020 when he was named a Second-Team All-Pro. Even still, his athleticism and versatility make him an intriguing fit in Steve Spagnuolo's defense.

Chiefs Should Target All-Pro LB Devin White

With Nick Bolton, Drue Tranquill, and Leo Chenal handling the majority of snaps, White could come in as a change-of-pace player to make impactful plays in spurts. He was only on a one-year, $4 million deal when he was released, so White could take the opportunity to compete for a Super Bowl while rebuilding his value.

Last season, White showed off his chops in coverage, intercepting two passes while allowing only a 65.5 passer rating when targeted. Considering how the Chiefs have struggled to contain tight ends this season, White's skills could help.

There are legitimate questions about his personality fitting into the locker room and whether he'd accept the reduced role. Those are things for Veach and the coaching staff to iron out, but it's at least worth having the conversation with White.

His last great season came in 2022 when he notched 124 tackles, 5.5 sacks and five deflected passes. White could play all over the defense and impact the scheme in a variety of ways. If he's interested in joining the two-time defending Super Bowl champions, he could be the final piece of the puzzle to solidify the league's most dominant unit.
