The Kansas City Chiefs have had, by any calculation, an interesting offseason. This is an organization in the midst of a dynastic run propelled by general manager Brett Veach's foresight in roster-building, though 2025's roster will represent a huge shift as the franchise moves toward a new era.

Finding victories in the margins has become a calling card of Veach's tenure. Special teams are no exception, where coordinator Dave Toub established himself as one of the truly elite in the NFL at his position.

Former undrafted free agent Nikko Remigio carved out a role as one of the most important special teams players on the team. However, Veach's offseason moves have made it clear how he feels about the 25-year-old wide receiver.

Toub, of all people, is certainly in Remigio's corner. Fans are too, and Remigio has made himself one of the more beloved players in the city. That said, actions speak louder than words.

Veach declared before the 2025 NFL Draft that he wanted to target kick and punt returners. Fourth-round selection Jalen Royals (20.4 yards per return in college) and seventh-round pick Brashard Smith (1,295 yards) can both fill the role.

Meanwhile, Toub claimed that second-year wideout Xavier Worthy is an elite punt returner who hasn't received proper shine, further suggesting the organization is looking at other players to fill Remigio's role.

At the very least, this represents three transactions that directly impact Remigio's job. Perhaps it's much ado about nothing, but it's hard to believe that given how intentional Veach and the Chiefs' brass have been with roster moves. Special teams took a step back in 2024 and it's obvious that the front office wanted to fix the issues.

Remigio could still have a spot on this team. He's actively battling with Skyy Moore and Justyn Ross for a place on the 53-man roster, yet it appears that the front office is ready to move on from him.
