Chiefs' New Signing Passionately Expresses Excitement for KC Debut
The Kansas City Chiefs signed left tackle D.J. Humphries less then 48 hours before their Week 12 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. As a result, Humphries didn't have a chance to speak to the media before the Panthers game.
Instead, Humphries first chance to speak to the media came on Wednesday leading up to the Raiders game on Black Friday.
Humphries shared with reporters and Chiefs Kingdom the story of his departure from Arizona and what's motivating him to perform well in Kansas City.
Chiefs News: D.J. Humphries is looking forward to taking the field with the Chiefs
Humphries explained that he was blindsided by his release from the Cardinals because even with his injury, he thought a contract extension would be agreed upon. Then, when he got hurt, he said it was like the world was trying to tell him to go hang out with his kids and stop playing football, but he didn't want to do that.
Hearing these comments from Humphries should excite Chiefs fans. Humphries being this motivated should lead to better play at left tackle.
Typically, when a player feels slighted by their former team they perform very well. Just look at Saquon Barkley with the Eagles this season, he's having a career year.
While Humphries won't have the whole season to make an impact like Barkley, his addition will have just as much importance for the Chiefs. Protecting Patrick Mahomes blindside and making him more comfortable in the pocket could fix the Chiefs' struggles on offense and propel them to their third straight Super Bowl.
Who knows, if Humphries plays well and isn't asking for a huge contract the Chiefs could even bring him back next season.
