The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for the rematch of last season's Super Bowl when they take on the 49ers on Sunday. While the Chiefs want to continue their perfect season, the 49ers want to start building momentum and go over .500 for the year.

Even though the Chiefs are surprisingly the underdogs against San Francisco per FanDuel Sportsbook, they will have a huge advantage in Week 7. The 49ers have a big problem in the kicking department ahead of the weekend.

After Jake Moody and his backup Matthew Wright both suffered injuries, the 49ers added Anders Carlson to the practice squad. Moody and Wright haven't made enough progress on their recovery, so according to The Athletic's Matt Barrows, Carlson will be elevated and handle kicking duties on Sunday.

NFL News: K Anders Carlson Starting for the 49ers in Week 7

Carlson was the kicker for the Packers in the 2023 NFL season. Statistically, he was among the worst kickers in the league, going 27/33 in field goals and missing six of his 13 attempts from 40+ yards. He also missed five extra-point attempts, easily the largest number in the league.

By the end of Carlson's Green Bay tenure, his inaccuracy began to impact head coach Matt LaFleur's playcalling. He didn't show much improvement in training camp and preseason. As a result, the Packers released him at the beginning of the season.

There is a chance the 49ers may be more reluctant to kick field goals on Sunday because they don't trust Carlson to perform under pressure. If they fail to put points on the board because of this, it could be a major advantage for Andy Reid & Co.
