Chiefs Make Surprise WR Move Just 10 Days Before Super Bowl
By Joe Summers
The Kansas City Chiefs typically have tricks up their sleeve during the playoffs, notably displayed on several unexpected plays they unveiled against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship.
With the Super Bowl matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles coming up, the coaching staff is putting the finishing touches on the roster and game plan going into the big game. As it turns out, they just may have another surprise to pull off.
WR Skyy Moore, who hasn't played since Week 7, saw his 21-day practice window activated on Thursday. He could be added to the active roster for the Super Bowl which would be a stunner, though is suddenly possible.
Chiefs Activate WR Skyy Moore's Practice Window to Return From Injury
Jesse Newell of the Kansas City Star shared a video on social media of Moore practicing with the return group. Nikko Remigio has done an excellent job as the main returner in the postseason, notching two significant gains over the last two weeks. Nonetheless, he fumbled against the Houston Texans it's always wise to have depth behind him.
Whether or not Moore deserves a roster spot in the biggest game of the year is another question. He had zero receptions in six contests before getting hurt, obviously falling out of favor after a disastrous first two years in the NFL. Patrick Mahomes doesn't trust him, and Moore's only utility at this point seems to be on special teams.
With how deep Kansas City suddenly is at receiver, why would they elevate Moore? Xavier Worthy, DeAndre Hopkins, Hollywood Brown, Justin Watson, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Remigio feel like locks to be on the field against the Eagles. Where's the space for Moore?
In all likelihood, this just gives the former second-round pick some extra practice time. If you haven't played since Week 7, you probably aren't returning for the single most important matchup of the last three years.
We'll see what happens, though this feels like much ado about nothing. As things stand, the Chiefs are 1.5-point favorites at FanDuel Sportsbook to win a third straight Super Bowl.
