The Kansas City Chiefs have a long offseason ahead as the front office and coaching staff try to reshape the roster to avoid another meltdown in the Super Bowl. They've already made a series of moves and lost some players, though the dominos are only beginning to fall.

As teams around the NFL begin the offseason, organizations are granted more roster spots to evaluate guys in the coming months. That means some Chiefs will leave for what they hope will be greener pastures while the franchise makes decisions about who can help lead to another championship.

One of those moves came earlier this week as Kansas City lost a recent draft pick to the New York Giants.

Chiefs CB Nic Jones Signs With Giants to Start Offseason

According to the agency JL Sports, Chiefs CB Nic Jones signed with the New York Giants on Friday. Originally a seventh-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Jones spent two years with the Chiefs, appearing in 10 games.

Though he spent the majority of his time on the practice squad, Jones had some impressive moments as a special teamer during his rookie campaign. In nine games, Jones played 48% of special teams snaps and notched four tackles.

However, it became clear in 2024 that Jones wasn't part of the team's future plans. Even with instability at the cornerback position following the trade of L'Jarius Sneed and Jaylen Watson's fractured ankle, Jones only saw the field in one game. When the defense was trotting out Keith Taylor and Chris Roland-Wallace in an attempt to find some juice, Jones remained on the sidelines.

Now, he'll get an opportunity to shine on a rebuilding New York squad in need of contributors. The Chiefs were competing for the No. 1 seed in the AFC and a Super Bowl, so it makes sense that a young player like Jones could develop for a worse squad with lower expectations.

Regardless, Chiefs Kingdom hopes the best for Jones as he tries to become a reliable starter in the NFC.
