The Chiefs have several key needs when looking ahead to the offseason and cornerback depth is certainly among them. Jaylen Watson's season-ending injury was a big blow after trading away L'Jarius Sneed, but one new projection sees Kansas City land a long-term replacement in free agency.

Jets CB D.J. Reed is an unrestricted free agent and has been a valuable starter in New York on some elite defenses. As Bleacher Report argues, he'd be the perfect addition to pair with Trent McDuffie and the Chiefs' other young corners.

Originally a fifth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by Seattle, Reed has become one of the better corners in the NFL.

Chiefs Sign CB D.J. Reed in New Offseason Prediction

"The Chiefs have missed L'Jarius Sneed this season," Bleacher Report writes. "Trading the cornerback to Tennessee was still probably the right team-building move, but there's no denying that he would make the Chiefs secondary better right now.

"Kansas City will likely need to draft a corner at some point. It has done a good job of drafting and developing talent at the position. However, signing a veteran with a proven track record like Reed would give the secondary a higher floor next year."

It's a valid argument. Despite the Jets' struggles this year, Reed has surrendered just a 57.1% completion percentage and 82.1 passer rating when targeted in coverage. Believe it or not, that's the highest passer rating he's allowed in the last five years, showcasing his excellent ability.

He's only 5 feet 9 inches tall though, much shorter than Steve Spagnuolo typically prefers his corners. Reed brings a special physicality to the position though, which could help mitigate the length issue. With 54 tackles and 10 deflected passes in 12 games, it's clear Reed still has some juice.

Whatever the Chiefs decide to do, adding at least one corner is important, especially if Kansas City decides not to extend starting safety Justin Reid. The secondary will look different next year and Reid would be a great acquisition to make.
