The Kansas City Chiefs have struggled to reshape their wide receiver room following Tyreek Hill's exit in 2022. Although they've drafted two young promising stars in Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy in the past two seasons, the room has lacked the explosive element they had with Hill. That is why Kansas City has opted to sign Marquise "Hollywood" Brown during the 2024 and 2025 offseasons.
That said, Brown will be 28 before the start of next season, meaning his speed could start to diminish in the coming years. As a result, the Chiefs could be looking to add another young field stretcher who can take over for Brown.
Kansas City could look to add this player in this year's draft or via trade. In a recent article, Bleacher Reports, Kristopher Knox suggests the Chiefs should trade for Indianapolis Colts speedster Alec Pierce. While the idea of the Colts trading Pierce seems unlikely, Knox provides a good reason why Indianapolis could be okay moving on.
Could Kansas City Trade for Alec Pierce?
"Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce is entering a contract year, and re-signing him may not be a top priority for the Colts. Indy has several promising young receivers on its roster, including Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs and Adonai Mitchell."Kristopher Knox
Knox points to the plethora of young receivers the Colts have as the main reason they could look to trade Pierce. While that's a good point, Indianapolis failed to effectively incorporate players like Michael Pittman into their offense last season. This led to Pierce leading the team with 824 receiving yards on 37 receptions. That's an average of 22.3 yards a catch.
Over Pierce's first two seasons, he averaged 14.5 yards a catch (2022) and 16.1 yards a catch (2023). This proves that the 24-year-old is a true deep threat who could help Kansas City's deep passing attack, even if it is from off the bench.
Nevertheless, 2025 is a contract season for Pierce so he likely wouldn't be willing to join the Chiefs as a rotational receiver. Regardless, if this trade piques Brett Veach's interest, he should do everything possible to get Pierce in Kansas City, as a contract extension may not be too expensive.
