The Kansas City Chiefs have multiple position groups they must maintain or improve this offseason. Among their needs is to strengthen the cornerback room. Other than Trent McDuffie, in 2024, Kansas City's cornerbacks struggled to have consistent coverage once they lost Jaylen Watson.

That said, the secondary didn't become some elite unit upon Watson's return in the playoffs. Instead, their struggles continued, culminating in Watson letting up a 42-yard touchdown to DeVonta Smith in the Super Bowl. Thus, exploring options at cornerback, even if they are pricey, is a must.

This criteria fits one star who was recently reported to be in the midst of a trade conversation with his team. On Wednesday, Ian Rapoport reported that the Green Bay Packers are open to trading start cornerback Jaire Alexander.

Although the compensation could be lower than many expect for Alexander, he comes with a hefty price tag. Nevertheless, let's explore the possibility of Alexander becoming a Chief.

Chiefs Acquire CB Jaire Alexander In Major Projected Trade

Alexander was selected by the Green Bay Packers with the 18th pick in the 2019 draft. The 28-year-old has been a borderline elite player when healthy. However, he has missed significant time in three of his seven NFL seasons because of injury.

When on the field, Alexander's play has earned him two Pro Bowl and All-Pro nominations. The first of which came in 2020 when Alexander put together a season with 51 tackles, one sacks, 13 pass deflections, one forced fumble and one interception. Furthermore, he recorded a coverage grade of 90.6 in 2020, according to PFF.

Alexander earned these honors again in 2022. That season, he recorded 56 tackles, four TFLs, 14 pass deflections, five interceptions and a coverage grade of 82.1. While Alexander would immediately boost Kansas City's pass defense, his contract would be a huge concern.

Currently, Alexander is set to make $46.3 million over the last two years of a four-year $84 million contract. The Chiefs don't have enough cap space to take on that contract unless they decide to extend Alexander, which is risky.

Even though a deal for Alexander is unlikely to happen, if Kansas City were able to make it work, their defense would significantly improve.
