Chiefs Instantly Linked to Star Who's Emerged in Trade Rumors
By Cem Yolbulan
While the Chiefs and the Eagles are getting ready for Super Bowl LIX, the offseason is in full swing for the rest of the NFL. Two massive trade news broke over the last week that sent shockwaves through the league. First, the Browns star defensive end Myles Garrett requested a trade. Then, Rams WR Cooper Kupp revealed that the team is actively shopping him.
Garrett will obviously be at the top of every team's list. The opportunity to trade for arguably the best defensive player of his generation doesn't come around too often.
While the Chiefs are presumably interested in trading for the Browns star, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler identified them as a potential landing spot for Kupp as well.
Chiefs Identified as Potential Landing Spot for Cooper Kupp
When talking about potential suitors for Kupp, Fowler names the Steelers, Commanders, and the Patriots as teams expected to show interest. Then, he throws out the Lions and the Chiefs as surprise landing spots.
"Doesn’t this feel like a Kansas City Chiefs move a little bit?"
- Jeremy Fowler, ESPN
This feels more like Fowler connecting the dots rather than actual reporting. There is a good reason for the speculation for the Chiefs.
In his statement announcing the trade news, Kupp mentioned his desire to "compete for championships". It's hard to find a better place than Kansas City to do that.
Plus, the Chiefs were previously rumored to be interested in Kupp. At the trade deadline in October, there were talks of the Chiefs trading for Kupp before opting for DeAndre Hopkins. Now that Hopkins and Hollywood Brown are both pending free agents this offseason, the Chiefs could certainly re-visit the idea.
It's hard to imagine GM Brett Veach giving up much in value for the 31-year-old receiver but he will presumably explore ways to bring the former Pro Bowler in.
