It won't come as a surprise to Kansas City Chiefs fans that the franchise is giving an indication that the franchise is going to add to the receiver position in the upcoming draft class. The franchise brought in five receivers for top 30 visits, including Louisville's Chris Bell, who could be an option at 29 or 40 for the Chiefs. It is telling that Kansas City is looking at receivers expected to be drafted so highly, and it shows the urgency the front office feels at the position.

NFL Trade Rumors provided the full list of receivers the Chiefs brought in for top 30 visits, with Ohio State's Carnell Tate, USC's Makai Lemon, and Georgia State's Ted Hurst all notable inclusions. The fact that the Chiefs are looking at players of this level, with Tate and Lemon expected to be first-round selections, shows that the franchise is seriously considering an early draft addition.

When you consider the current KC depth chart, it makes all the more sense to move in this direction. Rashee Rice is the primary option, but comes with obvious off-the-field concerns and has missed time due to injuries and a suspension. This leads to Xavier Worthy, who has struggled with injuries as well and hasn't lived up to expectations in the first two years of his rookie deal.

Tyquan Thornton is the team's third option, with the receiver only offering one productive season in a four-year career. No question, this explains why the Chiefs are looking at drafting a receiver so high and shows the clear possibility that one of KC's first three selections will be adding to the position.

Chiefs Giving Early Indications of Adding Star Receiver in This Year's Draft Class

Thrown into the mix here as well is the fact that Patrick Mahomes is coming off the first serious injury of his career. It makes sense for Kansas City to take as much off the quarterback's plate as possible, and that includes adding a capable receiver to bring in needed depth.

With that said, it is far from a done deal that this is the direction the Chiefs will go in the early rounds of the draft. Valid arguments can be made at safety, corner, and edge rusher, leaving Kansas City's early draft decisions as a bit of a mystery. One that is obviously reliant on the teams in front of them as well.

Still, it is extremely noteworthy that so much pre-draft attention has been spent on the receiver position. It leaves fans expecting an early selection at the position and considering which pass catcher might be the right fit for an organization. Regardless of who the franchise chooses, it is clear that an addition is needed and is being heavily considered as we close in on the 2026 NFL Draft.
