The NFL releases the full 2025 schedule Wednesday night at 8 PM EST. However, multiple games have already been announced, leading up to the full schedule release.

For the Kansas City Chiefs, it was announced on Monday that they will play on Christmas against the Denver Broncos. They will also face the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving and take on the division rival Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in Week 1.

In addition to these games, another Chiefs primetime game has been leaked. According to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, Kansas City will face the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium on Sunday Night Football in Week 3. On paper, nothing jumps out as super interesting about this matchup, but for Chiefs fans, it's the first time they'll face former coach Mike Kafka.

Chiefs Set for Primetime Showdown with Former Quarterback Coach Mike Kafka

Typically, there's nothing special about a former coach going against his former team, as it happens every year. That said, this matchup holds a different importance given that Kafka was Patrick Mahomes' quarterback coach for four years.

While Mahomes entered the NFL with tons of talent, he needed to learn and be shaped into the quarterback he has become. As a result, Chiefs fans give credit to Kafka for helping develop Mahomes into what he is now.

Since joining New York in 2022, Kafka has struggled to lead a consistent Giants offense. Though that is not all on him since New York has had terrible quarterback play, as the offensive coordinator, you need to figure out how to maximize your players.

Still, Kafka held playing calling duties through the 2023 season, but they got revoked heading into last year. Be that as it may, the Giants still felt like it was worth keeping him around, which is why they gave him the assistant head coach title.

This year, with a bit more help at the skill positions and what the Giants hope is better quarterback play, maybe Kafka can have a more productive offense. Nevertheless, going up against Kansas City will be a huge challenge for the coach who helped develop Mahomes.
