Chiefs Get Major Isiah Pacheco News Right After Huge Broncos Win
By Jovan Alford
The Kansas City Chiefs kept their undefeated season alive on Sunday with an incredible play from linebacker Leo Chenal, who blocked the potential game-winning field goal from Denver Broncos kicker Will Lutz.
The Chiefs are 9-0 after 10 weeks and looking to move to 10-0 in Week 11. But before Kansas City goes on the road for their Week 11 matchup against the Buffalo Bills, they received an excellent injury update on running back Isiah Pacheco.
According to Chiefs Senior Team Reporter Matt McMcMullen, Kansas City head coach Andy Reid told reporters on Monday that Pacheco, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Charles Omenihu are all “very close” to returning.
Pacheco has been out since Week 2 after suffering a fractured fibula against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 15. Without Pacheco, the Chiefs signed veteran running back Kareem Hunt to the practice squad and had a running back by committee.
However, Hunt eventually emerged as the Chiefs’ lead running back, rushing for 449 yards and five scores since Week 4.
In Kansas City’s win over the Broncos, Hunt only had 35 yards on 14 carries. The veteran running back was a factor in the passing game, adding seven receptions (10 targets) for 65 yards.
With Pacheco’s pending return, the Chiefs need to figure out what to do with their backfield, which isn’t a bad problem. We saw Hunt play the RB2 role in Cleveland and can easily do the same with Pacheco.
Pacheco brings a physical running style to the Chiefs’ offense and Hunt can do the same. But we know when Pacheco is healthy, this Kansas City offense goes to another level.
