Chiefs Get Huge Harrison Butker News Ahead of Week 15
The Kansas City Chiefs head into Week 15 with a strong 12-1 record. They are going on the road to play the Cleveland Browns on Sunday and seek to extend their win streak to four games.
The Chiefs have found ways to win games no matter who is on the field, but they got some great news on kicker Harrison Butker on Saturday.
Chiefs News: Harrison Butker Gets Activated off IR
According to Tom Pelissero, Kansas City is activating Butker off injured reserve, and he will be the starting kicker against the Browns. In a corresponding move, the Chiefs have released kicker Matthew Wright, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Wright went 4-of-4 on field goal attempts last week against the Los Angeles Chargers, leading to him earning NFL Special Teams Player of the Week on Wednesday. He will now hit the open market as Butker is back to take his job.
Butker had to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to trim down his meniscus after suffering an injury during a practice in November. That led to him landing on IR and missing four games.
The 29-year-old has been with the Chiefs since 2017 and has developed into one of the best kickers in the league. In his career, Butker is 215-of-241 (89.2%) on field-goal attempts and 330-of-349 (94.5%) on extra-point attempts.
This season with the Chiefs, Butker was 18-of-20 on field goal attempts while going 21-of-22 on extra-point kicks.
Kansas City had Wright and Spencer Shrader step in to replace Butker during his absence. They were able to be consistent for them, but the postseason is rapidly approaching. Teams are looking to get healthy right now and this is a step in the right direction.
Butker was a limited participant in practice all week, and Kansas City also had Hollywood Brown practice for the first time this season on Friday.
