The Kansas City Chiefs return to the football field in six days for the start of training camp. This year, many Chiefs fans will be focused on the left tackle competition between Jaylon Moore and Josh Simmons. However, paying attention to how the bottom end of the wide receiver depth chart shakes out will also be important.

Rashee Rice, Marquise Brown, Xavier Worthy, Jalen Royals, and JuJu Smith-Schuster are likely all roster locks, leaving one or two spots open for four players. Therefore, Nikko Remigio, who quickly became a favorite of Chiefs Kingdom last season, may not even make the final 53-man roster in 2025.

Nikko Remigio Enters Training Camp with a Difficult Road to Make Chiefs' Final 53-Man Roster

Chiefs Kingdom became familiar with Remigio when he took over return duties in Week 14 last year. In five regular-season games, the 25-year-old returned 11 punts for 104 yards and 11 kickoffs for 295 yards. His best regular-season game came in Week 15 against the Houston Texans when he returned five kickoffs for 129 yards.

In the playoffs, Remigio had two electric returns. The first came in the divisional round against the Texans when he returned a kickoff 63 yards.

Then, the following week in the AFC Championship, he had an electric punt return of 41 yards. That said, while the 25-year-old proved to be a difference maker as a returner, he didn't provide much help as a receiver. In the five regular-season games he saw snaps at receiver, Remigio caught two passes on six targets for 48 yards.

That production, even as a sixth or seventh wide receiver, won't be enough to keep a roster spot. Players like Tyquan Thornton, Justyn Ross, and Skyy Moore are pushing him from the receiver side, while rookie Brashard Smith is pushing him as a returner.

As a result, Remigio's route to a roster spot in 2025 will be difficult. And while Chiefs Kingdom would love to continue seeing his highlight plays in the return game, it’s sadly unlikely that he will make the final 53-man roster in 2025.
