One of the most popular storylines among Kansas City Chiefs fans in the summer of 2024 was the emergence of beloved running back/fullback Carson Steele. After going undrafted, Steele won fans over with his fun personality and pet alligator on top of his impressive on-field efforts.
That said, the Chiefs clearly didn't have a quality backfield and needed to make upgrades. Drafting SMU star Brashard Smith has excited the Kingdom, which has seemingly become content with throwing Isiah Pacheco to the wolves.
Nonetheless, Steele is the single player who stands the most to lose. Based on the way the depth chart could look, he may not even make the roster.

Chiefs RB Carson Steele Almost Certainly Won't Make 2025 Roster After NFL Draft
If we're being honest, it'd be roster malpractice to let Steele on the 53-man roster in 2025. With Pacheco, Smith, Elijah Mitchell, and Kareem Hunt already considered to be near-locks, where can Steele fit in?
This is a fullback-style player who has a fumble problem and no breakaway speed. It was a fun story while it lasted, and Steele deserves to have a spot in the NFL, whether on an active roster or practice squad, but it's over.
That's nothing against Steele himself. He's beloved for a reason and has plenty of talent. The Chiefs told you what they thought of him with their actions though, and by acquiring two backs, it's clear that Steele isn't in head coach Andy Reid or general manager Brett Veach's future plans.
Hopefully, Steele can clear waives and remain on the practice squad. He was solid on special teams and a wonderful addition to the community, but this is a cruel business and there's no reason to keep him on the team.
We'll see what happens, yet Steele's days are numbered barring a drastic change in the plan.
